Understanding India’s budget data
CIP monitors disability-related public spending in India to understand how government budgets support the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities. This interactive Tableau brings together national and state-level budget data, allowing users to explore overall, sectoral, ministry, and department allocations over time.
India’s Constitution requires both the Central and State Governments to have their budgets approved by the Legislature. The budget process includes four stages: preparation, enactment, execution, and legislative review. The financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

Glossary
GDP – Gross Domestic Product
The total market value of goods and services produced in the country during a given period. It allows comparisons across national economies and over time.
Budget Estimate (BE)
Government projections of expenditure or receipts for a financial year.
Actual Expenditure (Actuals)
The actual government expenditure or receipts recorded for the relevant financial year.
