Alberto Vásquez Encalada

Alberto is a Peruvian lawyer and disability rights advocate who is based in Geneva, Switzerland. He holds a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and an LL.M in International and Comparative Disability Law and Policy from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Previously, he worked as Research Coordinator at the Office of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities during Catalina Devandas’ mandate. He has also worked as a consultant for different United Nations agencies, including UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Office of the Secretary General.

In Peru, he worked as Head Advisor of the Congress’ Committee on Social Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities, as well as commissioner at the Disability Unit of the Peruvian Ombudsperson’s Office.

He is the President of Sociedad y Discapacidad – SODIS, and board member of the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) and the Bank Information Center (BIC). He is also a member of the Latin American Network of Psychosocial Diversity.
